F.A.Q.Q: Why does tuition remain the same during months that the studio is closed for vacations (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break)? A: Tuition is based on 36 weeks or nine months of classes from mid August to the end of May which we split into monthly payments. Although some months throughout our season may have less than four weeks in them, others will have more. Q: Why can't I come into the classroom during class to watch my child? A: It is distracting to both students and instructors to have parents in the dance room while classes are going on. Please observe your child's progress through our viewing windows. Q: I feel my child isn't being challenged in the classes he/she are in. What can I do about this? A: You may schedule a conference with your child's teacher and/or the studio director if you feel strongly about this. However, please remember that our staff is highly qualified and places students in the classes that are best suited for them technically and emotionally. Our instructors have the same amount of training and level of training as your family physician, just in a different subject. Q: Why is my child is in a different class level then the kids he/she was with last year? Or: Why is my child in a class with children younger then him/her? A: All children develop at different levels. This is most telling in dance or athletics. Some children's muscle memory and motor skills are more advanced than others their age. Here at The Pointe Dance Studio students are placed in the classes that are the most appropriate for them level and emotional wise. Proper class placement is much more important then ensuring they will be with their friends from school. Q: What is the difference between the conservatory program and the recreational program? A: The Pointe Dance Studio offers two programs to choose from. The first is a recreational program for the beginner dancer or those interested in dance as a hobby or exercise program only. The classes in this program are all Combo classes, all Pre-school and KG classes, and all Hip Hop classes. Our pre-school dance program starts at age three and a half. Please note there are age requirements for all classes. The second program is a conservatory program. This is a pre-professional training program for those students who are a little more serious about dance. They may be interested in pursuing it as a career someday or may want performing experience. All of our individual Jazz, Tap, and Ballet classes are part of this program. Ballet is a must to be considered for the conservatory program. Q: Why does my child have to conform to the dress code for every ballet class? A: It is important that your child wear their black leotard, pink tights, and ballet slippers so that it is easier for instructors to see body placement and make the proper corrections with body placement and alignment. Also dancer's hair must be securely fashioned in a bun so dancers will not be distracted by loose hair. Q: What is the recital participation fee? A: This fee goes towards paying for rental of the auditorium, backdrops, and all printing and advertising associated with the recital. Remember recital is voluntary and your monthly tuition does not include participation in our production. Q: During the recital why can't I take pictures and video of my child? A: First of all it is distracting and dangerous to our performers to have flashes and lights coming from the pitch darkness of the auditorium while performing. Secondly it is distracting and inconsiderate to the other audience participants who are trying to enjoy the show. You may take video and pictures during our dress rehearsal. Q: During the recital why can't I take my child from the dressing room and leave when he/she is finished dancing? A: All dancers are in the grand finale at the end of the show. Also please imagine how disruptive it would be to have audience members continually getting up and down during our show to get children. Other parents sat and watched your child perform, please show them they same courtesy and support ALL of our dancers. Q: Why are there so many rehearsals for the recital and does my child really have to be there for all of them? A: Some of the performers in our recital have never been on stage before and we have found the more opportunities we give the kids to practice, the more comfortable they are when they get up to perform. We have two rehearsals leading up to the show. The first is called a staging rehearsal. All classes get about 15 minutes each to go over their dances on the stage with their teacher and then practice several times through with the music. The dancers learn about stage direction, how the lighting works, and where to stand both on and off stage. The next rehearsal is a dress rehearsal. We try and run the rehearsal exactly as the show in full costumes so that the dancers can see what it's like to do their dances in costume. This also is a great opportunity to be sure that all costumes are working properly. We do not want a "wardrobe malfunction" during our show. We realize that a lot of our parents are working parents and have a difficult time understanding why we start the rehearsals so early in the day. Because we usually have about 30 routines in our show it is necessary to start rehearsal early in the day with our younger dancers so that we can get our older dancers home before midnight. I know that our show week is a huge commitment of time and energy and believe me...we appreciate it. It is very important that your dancer attend both rehearsals to ensure they have the best experience possible.
